About Chi Gung
Chi Gung may be written several different ways: Qi Gong, Chi Gung, Chi Gong or Chi Kung. It is pronounced Chi (as in cheese) and Gung (as in Gung Ho).

Chi Gung is an aspect of traditional Chinese medicine that involves co-ordinating breathing patterns with physical postures to maintain health and well-being. There are many different forms of Chi Gung and one form known as "The Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade" or Ba Duan Jin is probably the most practiced.

The Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade Chi Gung exercises have been shown to improve the respiratory, cardiovascular and immune systems. The exercise dates back to the Song Dynasty, and is broken down into eight sections, each of which focuses on a different physical area. The routine enhances limb strength and flexibility of the joints, and also fortifies the nerves. It can help in the treatment of illnesses such as osteoporosis and is also beneficial for mental health.
